D1.1 for CWI Part C: edition and on-screen code
For a CWI Part C D1.1 exam in 2026, prepare with AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2025. At the test center, Part C code-book exams give you the code as an on-screen PDF with word search disabled, so the skill to practice is navigating by clause number. You still need your own legitimately obtained copy to study from; Fillet Gauge does not provide the code. Check the dated exam instructions, especially if an older preparation page points you toward 2020.
Which edition does Part C use?
✓ The AWS D1.1 exam description, revision 14 Oct 2025, says the 2020 edition remained acceptable through 31 Dec 2025; after that date, candidates must study 2025. It explicitly includes 2026 retests in the 2025 requirement. This description also applies to candidates using D1.1 as their initial Part C examination.
Reader note on conflicting pages: the general CWI program page and the February 2025 Part C examination information still list 2020. The August 2025 Exam References and Editions Guide lists both editions. The later, D1.1-specific description supplies the transition deadline. Recheck that description and your appointment instructions if you encounter different wording.
The Part C information describes code application rather than a memory-only test. Use the Part C guide to understand the study task. If this is another attempt, read the retest guide as well; code choice and edition are separate checks.
Where to buy a legitimate D1.1 book
✓ The AWS publications store currently lists D1.1/D1.1M:2025-AMD1. Start there when comparing a book advertised for sale. Match the complete designation, language, format and edition before ordering. Check the live price and shipping terms rather than budgeting from a search snippet.
Reader note on the amendment: the store's AMD1 designation is more specific than the exam description's 2025 designation. The exam documents checked for this guide do not identify whether the amendment is included in the test reference. Confirm that detail with AWS before treating the store listing as an exact match to the exam reference.
Keep the receipt and the book's identifying details with your study records. A cheap listing is not useful if it sends you the wrong edition. Put reference costs alongside the appointment and travel costs in the CWI cost guide.
The on-screen code, and whether a printed copy is allowed
✓ The D1.1-specific exam description says an electronic reference is available on the testing computer, recommends bookmark navigation and states that word search is disabled. Plan around that: practice moving through the PDF's bookmarks and clause numbers without searching for words.
✓ The CWI Examination User Guide, revision 4 Sep 2026 (p.13), says printed code books are not permitted for certain Prometric exams. The D1.1 description describes a printed, permanently bound copy, and the User Guide allows tabs and notes where a printed book is permitted, but the two documents don't settle which applies to your appointment. If you want to take a printed copy in, confirm with AWS and your booking instructions before buying one for that purpose. A printed or bought copy is still the best way to study.
Learn the clause structure, then practice the route
Start with the contents in your own 2025 book. Add a small number of clear clause-number tabs, using the exact numbering printed there. Keep the labels numerical: for example, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, wherever those clauses begin in your copy. These are navigation labels, not a substitute for checking the book's contents. We do not reproduce clause text.
Try opening the closed book to each numbered clause. If neighbouring tabs hide each other, move or reduce them. Add more detailed numerical labels only when practice shows that a broad tab leaves too much page turning. A dense fringe of tabs can slow you down by making every label equally hard to see.
Build a separate study log with a topic, the clause number you found and the time needed to reach it. Keep the log out of your exam materials. Repeat slow lookups later from the contents or index rather than remembering a page position. Then read the relevant provision in your own book and check any cross-reference before deciding you have found the right location.
Practice electronic bookmark navigation too. The useful habit is to identify a starting location, move to the numbered clause and verify the reference. Paper tabs and screen bookmarks are different controls serving the same retrieval task.
Check the appointment before packing
✓ The User Guide requires current government-issued identification and a printed AWS exam confirmation letter at check-in. Review its identification details, your appointment confirmation and the test-center rules together. Check permitted materials for your specific examination rather than borrowing another candidate's packing list.
Use the Part C diagnostic to identify navigation gaps. Record whether a missed task came from choosing the wrong starting clause, losing time between references or misreading material after finding it. That distinction gives your next study session a concrete purpose.
